The best shark movies to watch during shark week

Shark movies have been around for decades, and if you like watching these dangerous creatures go after humans, this is the list of movies for you.

In honor of Shark Week, an annual tradition started by the Discovery Channel, we've compiled a list of the best shark movies to stream and watch online.

Note: Most of these movies require you to subscribe to a service (such as Netflix) or pay a lump sum.

1. Jaws (1975)

When it comes to shark movies, there's no better place to start than with the original on-water horror, Jaws. Directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Roy Scheider and Richard Dreyfuss, Jaws takes you to Amity Island, a quaint little resort town. But the fun soon turns to fear for visitors and locals alike when a great white shark takes over the waters.

There are also several sequels worth watching, but none compare to the original.

2. Deep Blue Sea (1999)

Sharks are on the hunt at an isolated research facility in the Deep Blue Sea. Watch Saffron Burrows and LL Cool J, starring Samuel L. Jackson, in this sci-fi thriller on the water. You will see scientists who are researching ways to save other people, fighting for their own lives against sharks with a taste for science.

Two sisters go on vacation to Mexico only to find themselves trapped in a shark cage at the bottom of the ocean. For a really scary shark movie, how about one based on a true story? In Open Water, a nightmare comes to life when two vacationing scuba divers find themselves trapped in shark-infested waters when their tour boat leaves them behind.

8. Sand Sharks (2011)

Just when you think staying in the sand is safer than swimming in the water, you discover Sand Sharks. This part comedy, part horror movie stars Corin Nemec and Brooke Hogan. There is no tsunami in this movie, but there is an earthquake that breaks open and opens a crater in the ocean. What's inside that crater is a prehistoric shark that's ready to hunt for food by swimming in the sand.

9. Sharknado (2013)

If you haven't heard of Sharknado or seen at least one movie in this movie series, then you're missing out. This time, it's a hurricane that ignites shark attacks, but not in the water or on the sand, but in the air. Shark-filled tornadoes hail stars Ian Ziering and Tara Reid in this so-called "cult" classic. If you're looking for an unrealistic but extremely entertaining shark movie, here you go.
