But not all Android TV boxes are the same. At one end of the scale, the $300 Nvidia Shield Pro ships with 500GB of storage. At the other extreme, some cheap Chinese models on eBay come with as little as 4GB. Luckily, it's easy to add more storage capacity!

How to add more storage space to Android TV

If your Android TV device has a USB port, you can read and write to an external drive. However, you can't use the drive space for game and app installation files, unless you first make some changes in the Settings menu:

  1. Connect your USB drive or external hard drive to your Android TV device.
  2. On the home screen, scroll down to Settings .
  3. Go Storage and reset .
  4. Find your external USB drive and select it.
  5. Choose Set as internal storage o Format as storage device. (The exact wording differs between devices.)
  6. You may need to select Move Now (depending on your device).

How to add more storage space to Android TV

Give the device a moment to format its drive, and you're good to go. (Note:You will not be able to remove the external drive and use it on other devices while it is formatted as internal memory.)
