Squid Game:what are the rules of the real game that inspired the Netflix series?

Squid Game is on the way to becoming the most popular Netflix series in the world thanks to its script and its well-crafted acting. But what are the real rules of the Korean game that inspired the show?

If you haven't seen it, go for it. Squid Game or "'the squid game " is a hugely successful Netflix series. The South Korean show is number one all over the world.

Its talented actors, its impeccably edited script, the perpetual tension it offers... All these elements make Squid Game a future pop-culture classic. Nonetheless, as the name suggests, the series is based on a Child's Play set in 1970s-1980s Korea. But what are the rules?

The success of Squid Game

It's the Netflix phenomenon of the moment. Squid Game is the flagship series of the American platform and is a huge success. Briefly, the show takes place in South Korea and tells the story of a man, in debt, lost in his life who will participate despite himself in a game on an island, which will turn out to be bloodthirsty.

Just like hundreds of participants, the hero will have to fight, think, create alliances and make painful choices to survive. The characters who will accompany him will also show their character and when some will become endearing, others will ulcerate the fans.

Squid Game exists

But then, the Squid Game, this game played by young school children, put forward by Netflix in the first minutes of the show is it really real? The answer is yes. The squid game existed. It was popular among children in the 1970s-1980s in South Korea , especially in schoolyards. Players are divided into two teams:one attacking, one defending. The goal is simple, on a shape drawn on the ground, the attackers must touch the small upper area, which corresponds to a squid head . The defense must contain the assaults of the adversary party, which is obliged to move only on one foot.

If the attackers are pushed by the defenders outside the drawn area, they are eliminated. It is a collective game as reported by the Screenrant site. The game is divided into two parts, the one where the attackers jump through the size of the squid drawn on the ground and the second when they have to reach the head.

Still, the now-unpopular game never had well-defined rules, so it's still hard to know its accuracy beyond what the Netflix series offers. However, it should still be clarified, just in case, that losers in the real game, don't get killed at the end like in the show Squid Game. But you already knew that, right?
