What games are useful for working on your memory?

Occurring at any age, memory loss has very harmful consequences on both personal and professional life. But like a muscle, memory can thankfully be trained with very easy techniques and tools.

Recalling memories

Who is not afraid of losing all their memory one day? To avoid this phenomenon, which affects more and more people, start with very simple exercises to practice on a daily basis. One of them is to bring back memories. In this way, your mind will become more attentive every day and naturally sharpen its ability to memorize. Every day, ask yourself questions:what was the last movie you saw? Where did you go on your birthday five years ago? Where were you on September 11, 2001? What were you wearing five days ago? Another fun game:hide and seek. Ask a few people to make a table and write letters of the alphabet in each box and randomly. Observe them for a few minutes. Then, in another blank table this time, it's up to you to put the letters back in the right place.

The locus method

Ancient technique created by Roman and Greek orators to remember long speeches they had to deliver, the method of places also called the method of Loci or the Roman room is a thousand-year-old process that is very effective in remembering certain things that we keep in what is called "the palace of memory". Moreover, many international memorization champions use it, including the famous Sherlock Holmes. This mental palace stores the memory of places and the so-called episodic memory. The goal is to keep information in familiar places like your home. To use this method, start by walking around your house. Go to the entrance, then the living room, the kitchen, the bedroom, the bathroom...

In each room, choose an element or loci and memorize it in order to organize your palace. In the living room, for example, remember different places, namely the bookcase, the armchair, the carpet, the coffee table or even the television. Travel through each of these rooms in the house many times, stopping at each location. This will help create a mental journey. Now associate a loci with an image. For example, start with your shopping list. In the living room, the painting will be associated with milk, the armchair with bread, the carpet with flour, the green plant with yoghurt and so on. After several exercises, you can use this process to remember a speech, ideas to discuss during a seminar, key information from a meeting, etc.

Some classic games

To train your memory, you can also play classic games that refine your memorization skills, to name only crosswords or Sudoku. Otherwise, since new technologies are in full swing, do not hesitate to download applications available on smartphones that help improve memory. They are particularly numerous. Finally, take the time to do meditation and especially to sleep well, because good sleep is a guarantee of a more alert and focused brain.
