Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will produce exclusive Netflix shows

In a great move, Netflix has signed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to a multi-year deal that will see the couple's production company create a range of exclusive content for the streaming service.

What will Harry and Meghan be producing for Netflix?

As first reported in The New York Times, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will use their currently unnamed production company to create films, documentaries, scripted shows and children's media.

One show already in production is an animated series that aims to showcase inspiring women. Another is a nature documentary series.

According to Variety, the couple have previously dated NBCUniversal, as well as Disney and Apple. However, Netflix's deep pockets won.

In a joint statement, the couple said:

Harry and Meghan split from the British Royal Family in March 2020, meaning they no longer represent the Queen and are financially independent. They have since moved to California.

The couple run a charitable foundation called Archewell, which has yet to be launched publicly, but will remain separate from this production deal.

Have Harry and Meghan ever produced television?

This will be Harry and Meghan's first time producing movies or TV shows, but they're no strangers to the world of streaming either.

Meghan found fame in Suits, before ending her acting career when she married Harry. Although she has expressed no desire to return to acting, Meghan has provided her voice for a Disney+ documentary called Elephant.

Harry can already be seen on his new Netflix home in Rising Phoenix, a Paralympic Games documentary.

While the couple may not be the focus of all new movies and shows produced under this new deal, you can be sure Netflix will highlight their involvement as much as possible.

Netflix is no stranger to royalty

Although Harry and Meghan are the first members of the royal family to join Netflix, this is not the company's first contact with the monarchy.

That's because Netflix is full of great period dramas, including The Crown, which tells the story of the life of Queen Elizabeth II (Harry's grandmother).
