As the most honorable tournament of PUBG Mobile, PMGC or PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2021 draws to a close, Tencent officials have shared a brief roadmap of PUBG Mobile Esports 2022. PUBG Mobile tournaments from this year mark the beginning of PUBG Mobile. Esports 2.0 and this article will discuss the changes that have been introduced.

James Yang, Tencent Director of PUBG Mobile Esports, has revealed that he wants to expand the Battle Royale gaming eSports ecosystem with the introduction of PUBG Mobile Esports 2.0. The new version wants to focus more on amateur players and strengthen the base of tournaments.

The new roadmap informs us that the PMNC (PUBG Mobile National Championship) and Regional Cups will be the springboards for the PMPL (PUBG Mobile Pro League). Unlike the previous format, where PMCO Spring and Fall were held twice a year, PMNC and Regional Cups will only be held once.

These tournaments will be organized for semi-professional and amateur players, while professional players will continue to fight during the PMPL Spring and PMPL Fall. Additionally, some top tier tournaments will also offer a spot for PMNCs. As a result, players don't need to wait for PMCO (PUBG Mobile Club Open) to arrive.

The PUBG Mobile National Championship will be the qualifying tournament for PMPL which will be held in 11 countries while the regional cups will be held in 8 regions. Other than that, PMCO will now take place in the following regions:

  • South America
  • Asia
  • Middle East
  • Africa
  • Asia

PUBG Mobile has been selected as the official medal event at the 22nd Asian Games which are to be held in the month of September this year. Professional teams from different countries in the Asian region will have the chance to represent their country and also become potential medal contenders.

The game has also been included as a medal event at the 31st Southeast Asian Games to be held in Vietnam. Esports will be played from May 13-22, 2022.

Another big change noticed in PUBG Mobile Esports 2.0 is the introduction of Franchise Leagues. This model will be unveiled in the second half of 2022 in Southeast Asia. The new franchise model is different from existing models in China and Japan.

James Yang also announced that this year PUBG Mobile Esports prize pool will be much bigger than the previous one. CMGP 2021 alone had kept a prize pool of $6 million, therefore, fans can expect PUBG Mobile Esports 2022 to become much more impressive.
